Pistons Trade Fallout: The Long Night Has Ended

  • February 7, 2020May 24, 2020

I never knew being wrong could feel so right. It’s been no secret that the Detroit Pistons have been shopping Andre Drummond for some time now. He had been linked to many teams in the past several weeks, but none seemed willing to offer up the future assets the Pistons felt were worthy of Drummond’s gaudy numbers. His contract was bloated, his effort was questionable, and his 2020-21 player option effectively held the Pistons (as well as Drummond’s trade suitors) hostage. These are just some of the reasons why I was worried (more like terrified) the Pistons would be unable to move Drummond at the trade deadline, and would stubbornly clinging to the false notion that “we can’t just trade him for nothing”. But they proved me wrong. Read more “Pistons Trade Fallout: The Long Night Has Ended” →

Trade Talk: A New Vase For Derrick Rose?

  • January 23, 2020May 29, 2020

This is a Derrick Rose trade discussion. I do solemnly swear that this write-up will not turn into an Andre Drummond bashing….even though he did have nine turnovers in a loss to the 13-28 Washington Wizards and allowed Ian Mahinmi to go 9-10 from the field against him. Dammit, there I go again (sorry, not sorry). Seriously, check the above link for a painful but hilarious compilation of some of Drummond’s worst work against the Wiz, courtesy of Detroit Bad Boys. Trade Talk: Detroit Pistons Have A Conun-Drummond

  • January 16, 2020May 29, 2020

There are very few things in life I am more passionate about than helping the world understand what I have known for years: that Andre Drummond is one of the most overrated players in the NBA. And I have three children. I didn’t choose this campaign, it chose me. The guy just unearths an unhealthy amount of frustration and disappointment inside of me, and quite frankly, I want it to end. By many accounts, the Drummond era will reportedly soon be ending in Detroit, with a seemingly endless amount of rumors swirling about potential suitors willing to trade for a 1/2 season rental of the Pistons’ “star” player. The Best Detroit Sports Moments of 2019

  • December 31, 2019May 29, 2020

In August of 2019, I decided to start a little passion project called The Warm Take. I love my teams, and I love my hometown. I already spend a significant amount of my time devoted to watching, researching, and expending emotional energy into the Detroit sports scene. Why not put that time to good use and turn my knowledge and opinions into poetry that I can display in my own personal little art gallery? This was going to be fun! I couldn’t wait to get started.

Then 2019 happened. Quite possibly the worst combined year in the history of the four major professional Detroit sports franchises. I should’ve seen that coming. Read more “The Best Detroit Sports Moments of 2019” →

Detroit Pistons: No Drummond, No Problem

  • December 16, 2019January 27, 2020

I planned on writing about the Detroit Pistons a lot more this season, as I was cautiously optimistic that this team was ready to climb a seed or two in the eastern conference playoff bracket. This despite knowing that any real success was capped by their fraudulent “big 3” of Andre Drummond, Blake Griffin, and Reggie Jackson. I have watched every game, just as I have the past 25 years or so. That’s my end of the bargain. I tune in, make my observations, take some notes, then regret how I could’ve done something much more productive with those two hours of my life. Detroit Pistons 10 Game Report Card

  • November 11, 2019January 28, 2020
  • by Jon Hamilton

Ten games into the 2019-20 season, the Detroit Pistons sit at a very unexciting 4-6, good for 9th place in the Eastern Conference. With Blake Griffin set to make his season debut on Monday night against the Timberwolves, it seems like the perfect time to check in on how they’ve fared without him, and several other key players. It’s time for a sports writing exercise as old as time…time to hand out some grades! Here is the Detroit Pistons 10 game report card. Read more “Detroit Pistons 10 Game Report Card” →
